北京公社由評論家與策劃人冷林先生創(chuàng)建于2004年。自2005年4月起第一個展覽以來，北京公社一直努力嘗試建立起一種推動當代藝術(shù)的新模式，一種介于博物館和畫廊之間的新空間。北京公社是展示正在成長的有突出才能的藝術(shù)家作品的空間，又致力于發(fā)現(xiàn)并推動新的有創(chuàng)造活力的藝術(shù)家。作為推動中國當代藝術(shù)的發(fā)動機，北京公社通過獨特的展覽策劃、組織學術(shù)討論和專業(yè)的圖書出版推動中國當代藝術(shù)的發(fā)展，在國際當代藝術(shù)的領(lǐng)域里展現(xiàn)其特殊的價值。自北京公社創(chuàng)立以來，它即已受到國內(nèi)外藝術(shù)專業(yè)人士和機構(gòu)的廣泛關(guān)注。曾經(jīng)在2005年舉辦的展覽《只有一面墻》，又于2006年2月在澳大利亞悉尼的Art Space展出?！?ldquo;升華”——張大力新作展》（2005年10月至11月在北京公社首次展出）被選參加即將舉辦的韓國第六屆光州雙年展。
 

    Beijing Commune was founded by critic and curator Leng Lin in 2004. Since its first exhibition opened in April 2005, it has kept trying to establish a new model of promoting Contemporary art in the world, an alternative space which is between museum and gallery.Beijing Commune is a space where various works of established and emerging Chinese contemporary artists are exhibited, including painting, drawing, sculpture, video and photography, etc. As a motor that drives Chinese contemporary art, it focuses on discovering and promoting the new power of Chinese contemporary art, realizing the special value of Chinese contemporary art in the international arena, and creating new ideas of contemporary art. It also organizes professional conferences and publishes books on Chinese contemporary art.Since its founding, the space has been noticed by artistic professionals and institutions from all over the world. In February 2006, the previous exhibition “Only One Wall”, which was held in the space in 2005, was launched at Art Space in Sydney, Australia. The “Sublimation: A New Art Project by Zhang Dali” exhibition (held at Beijing Commune in October and November 2005) is selected to attend the coming 6th Gwangju Biennale.
