The end of the world is a metaphor, useful for understanding the monumental changes that are occurring presently, both to our planet and, as a consequence, to the human species. We are living in an epoch that can be termed pre-apocalypse, when multiple resources that vitally support modern living, and the global population, are either dwindling or causing catastrophic and unintended consequences.

The artworks selected to appear in this exhibition deal principally with the triumvirate concerns of peak oil, climate change, and resource scarcity, being now the chief concerns of our age, notwithstanding myriad other issues, such as antibiotic resistance, genetic engineering, and AI/robotic workforce replacement.

Envisioned as a series of seven exhibitions, we are not concerned with providing solutions, so much as with aiding the viewer through the seven stages of grieving - shock, denial, bargaining, guilt, anger, depression, and hope. This first exhibition is of course, shock.

Only with the final stage, hope, may we begin to reconsider life lived within a differently constructed paradigm than our present, unsustainable one.

Hutch Wilco, Curator.
