1982年畢業(yè)于四川美術(shù)學(xué)院繪畫系油畫專業(yè)
1986年研究生畢業(yè)于四川美術(shù)學(xué)院繪畫系油畫專業(yè),同年留校任教
1993年赴德國卡塞爾大學(xué)藝術(shù)學(xué)院交流訪問，1994年回校
2000年調(diào)川音成都美術(shù)學(xué)院任教,

“畫畫總是讓我累并快樂著，畫美女更是如此”。

劉虹是和四川畫派同時(shí)成長起來的女性藝術(shù)家�！芭运囆g(shù)家”一詞在這時(shí)有些錯(cuò)位，因?yàn)閷?0世紀(jì)80年代的劉虹，“女性”僅指天然的性別而無太多的文化學(xué)意義。那時(shí)的“女性”和“男性”有何區(qū)別?除了隱身于巨大的以男性權(quán)力為核心的整體意識(shí)形態(tài)中外，“女性”意識(shí)是沒有別的出路的。90年代中長期，在世界性的女權(quán)主義浪潮的影響下，劉虹開始自覺地以女性方式來思考、創(chuàng)作。以超現(xiàn)實(shí)的畫面結(jié)構(gòu)關(guān)照女性的內(nèi)心世界是這一時(shí)期作品的顯著特征：作為有教養(yǎng)的女性藝術(shù)家，劉虹無法像七、八十年代女性藝術(shù)家那樣大膽展示女性的生理特征，并以此強(qiáng)調(diào)女性的權(quán)利和價(jià)值，她所使用的女性裸體，只是女性內(nèi)心獨(dú)白的符號(hào)，因而顯得隱晦、冷漠和理性，近幾年，劉虹著意關(guān)注消費(fèi)社會(huì)中女性自下而上的生存狀態(tài)，畫風(fēng)亦隨之變化。廣告式畫法，對女性世俗之美的炫耀，以及由抽象線條所隱喻的理性意識(shí)，均暗示著劉虹對時(shí)代的困惑、思考與矛盾。
